pre-
production
I started pre-production 23rd of January and in that day, I
did the example interview. I did that interview with my class member, Thomas. I
asked question and having his opinion about social media. Also, I did ask
similar questions I would ask for my original interviews. Interview was 6 mins
long and I had good comments for each question from him.
And this was setup I used for my set interview. I used three
pointing lighting. And had to have one camera.
And I had big break, next video recording I did 07th
February. I did the second interview with Justin Smith course director of media
level 3. During the interview, I asked his opinions about social media and how
does he think about students interact with social media as lecture etc. That
interview was 12 minutes long and for that I used multi- camera technique first
time.
re- shoot
Then after shows to sample documentary, my lecture commented
on that and said, there were too many stock footages I put into it. And if I’m
going keep it that way that might affect to my grade. And he suggested me to do
some re-shoots, add more clips my own. I also, agree with him because there
wasn’t that much footages, I can show my creative ideas.
So, I did arrange to do some videos. According to my plan I did “student using
social media during in the college time”, some time lapse, “Streets and night-time
streetlights”, “playing football” and “playing guitar”.
Post- production
Before starting
post- production, I wanted to have stock footages to add this documentary. So, I
wanted to have couple footages,
A time lapse of a very busy
city
Two taking selfies
Some new report about social
media
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s
congress testimony
Pexels and Videezy are free stock footage website, and I used these two websites to have the footages I wanted.
These were the footages I found from it,
In the beginning
I had footages, and the plan was filling the rest of it with stock footages. But
as mention before course lecture suggested me to have my footages rather than having
stock footages. So, I did a re-shoot. And up with these footages.
After that I restarted again post- production. Next task was to find out perfect match soundtracks. It means, this documentary has two parts. So, 0 to 50 seconds it’s talking about revolution of social media and how positive that was. For that period was needed to have happy, major sounded soundtrack. And for that I chose to have Yanni’s ‘One man’s dream’ soundtrack. But because of copyright issues I had to change that. Therefore, I had to search a new soundtrack again and this soundtrack called “Goodbye My Dear” by Steffen Daum. And it also has positive sound same as the track I had. For the second part I chose “Dramatic Mystery Investigation” sound, which I found from YouTube and Its royalty free content.
First thing I
did, made some folders in premiere pro, footages and music.
And I had to
edit my first interview audio because it had lot of noise and very quiet. So, I
did volume up and reduce the noise from that.
After that
according to my script and storyboard I made the sequence.
And I liked to add cinematic black bars. For that
I used ‘crop’ tool.
Then, I
started to colour grade the whole sequence. For that I used premade ‘LUT’. IWLTBAP
Aspen – Standard which I used for that.
Because of my
mistake I hadn’t use a tie for my first interview. According that situation, I
got interviewee’s audio only. And it very low. So, I had to put my question on
the screen, and I was need it to appearance in the screen nicely. For that, I decided
to use ‘typewriter effect’. Typewriter effect is use of typewriter sound effect
and put some word in to the screen according to that sounds. I had to add the question
one by one and for that I made new sequence as well.
Finally the captions, the reason I decided to add caption during the production period lot of people said it’s good or have caption because sometimes my pronunciation wasn’t that clear. According to that used of caption tool, selected open subtitle and put captions to it.
Overall, I would say production wasn’t easy that much and had to think about production to be my own. That was a good lesson as well. Also, I learnt some new stuff and practice the stuff I already known in adobe premiere pro.
